DRUGS AND OUR COMMUNITY Meth Labs and how they effect our community Meth & How it affects our Community Welcome to the community drug awareness and education center. This information is provided to the citizens of Nevada and Vernon County by the Nevada Police and Vernon County Sheriff's Departments. The purpose of the following articles is to educate the citizens of Nevada and Vernon County on how to identify drugs, persons who may be under the influence of drugs and possible drug activity in your neighborhood. Often times, we as law enforcement officers tend to overlook one of our most valuable tools, YOU, the citizens whom we are sworn to protect. We hope that with the following information, you, the citizens of Nevada and Vernon County will be able to recognize drug activity and will assist us in our efforts to combat drugs on our streets. How bad is the drug problem in Nevada / Vernon County? The answer is the problem our community faces concerning drugs is no more or less serious than any other rural community. The drug problem is nationwide and Missouri has been ranked in the top two states only second to California in the production of Methamphetamines. So what do we do about it? We use every tool that we have available and try our best to investigate drugs and educate our citizens to help them protect themselves and their neighborhoods from drugs. In addition to you becoming more aware of drug activity and what to look for, this gives you, the citizens of Nevada and Vernon County the opportunity to contribute by reporting possible drug activity to the Police or Sheriff’s Department and remain anonymous. A large percentage of the property crimes in Nevada and Vernon County can be associated back to illegal drug manufacturing, sales, and use. The law enforcement agencies of Nevada and Vernon County will continue to fight illegal drugs in our community however, assistance from the community on suspicious activity is essential to fight this problem.
